Open to all high school classes.
JA Career Success is an engaging and comprehensive learning experience that introduces high school students to the workplace. As interns, students participate in realistic work experiences in multiple departments of a fictional company, Orbit Boom. The learning experience teaches soft skills and business best practices in the context of scenarios and assignments.
Students then will take what they have learned to a real-life workplace through a JA Job Shadow site visit.
Following participation in the program, students will be able to:
Establish SMART performance goals that align with the company's key success factors.
Demonstrate self-direction by identifying credible sources, conducting research, and summarizing recommendations
Organize work priorities based on importance and urgency.
Express empathy and use active listening in a conflict resolution situation.
Invent creative and reasonable solutions using collaborative brainstorming techniques.
JA Career Success consists of seven teacher-led sessions in the classroom and a three- to four-hour class JA Job Shadow visit to a partner company in a field of interest. During the site visit, students will go on a company tour, listen to a human resources presentation, talk through an ethics scenario with workplace hosts to consider the balance of professionalism and ethics, and practice conducting informational interviews with their volunteers. Students will practice skills they learned in the classroom to determine if a company is the right fit for them.
Please reference the calendar below for available dates. We reserve selections on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserved dates are unavailable for visit requests.

Planning for your site visit:
JA asks that families of students in experiential programs sign a photo release. Please plan to distribute the JA photo release with field trip forms and return the signed hard copies to JA staff at your visit. Yearly forms through school districts do not cover JA learning experiences, so it is important we receive JA-specific photo releases.
Dress code: Students are expected to wear business casual attire unless otherwise specified by JA staff. Trade industries may have additional requirements to ensure safety while touring the company's facilities.
Dietary restrictions: Company partners often provide lunch for visiting students. If you have any dietary restrictions in your class, let JA staff know at least two weeks prior to your site visit so company partners can plan accordingly.
