Basic Set Build Reminders
Safety First - make sure you use tools properly and you follow all safety guidelines. Wear proper clothing and safety gear
Spray Paint and "noxious materials" must be used outside
Clean up after yourself, especially paint and tools. Wash out brushes, rollers and paint trays so they can be used again. Check your feet to make sure you are not tracking paint and if you spill something, clean it up right away!
Building a basic flat - short tutorial...there are MANY videos out there for traditional flats, Hollywood flats, and more
After you sign up for Set Builds, be sure to watch the "How to" videos to know what each project entails
Prepping Yard Signs - we have received several political signs as donations and we use them for sets and props, but they need a base coat to prime the material so paint will adhere. Watch the video below for information.
Sets/Props Storage (Tub Chart)
After every show, we need to reallocate our resources in our Storage Room at ORLC. We are looking into purchasing a large Shipping Container to store items that do not need to be in climate control - we are working on permissions through the Church and the City and then will share "funding" plans.
In the meantime, if you need something for the current show, check the Tub Chart...and then realize we still need to organize props and sets from the last show(s) we did...
Set Design- Idea Board (Show Set Board - soon)
Many sets will be painting projects - painting base coats and/or painting over other projects
Some construction is involved in many shows - but it is "stage magic" so sometimes it looks good from the audience, but it is not "real"
Some set pieces must be constructed in a manner that actors can safely engage with the piece (stand or sit on it, etc.)
Props Needed - Idea Board (Props Board - soon)
Often props can be gathered from what families have at home and IYT can "borrow" them
Some props may be purchased through Amazon or a thrift store and can be "gifted" to IYT (though we have limited storage space)
Some props may need to be created from the Idea Board (unique items would be "created" rather than purchased or borrowed)
