For this project, we had to analyze the impact social media has on us and in our society. We analyze the impact through a quiz and a statistic found in Pew Research.
My results for the quiz were "You might not be 100% addicted (yet!), but you definitely need to evaluate how much time you're spending scrolling on your social media accounts. It may not be making you happy. One study by Facebook of teen Instagram users in the US and UK found more than 40% of those who reported feeling “unattractive” said the feelings started when using Instagram. It's a good time to start thinking about decluttering your digital life through a social media and digital detox!"
I agree with the results. I tend to forget about social media when I'm at work or when I'm at school. But when I'm home, I tend to check Instagram constantly. I think that I've done some digital detox by deleting most of my accounts and only having two social media account, Instagram and TikTok.
This graph indicates how society get news now a days. I found this statistic interesting because it demonstrates how a social media, specifically TikTok can have a big impact on receiving news. I feel identified with this statistic because I find out about news very often through TikTok, instead of reading a news website, radio or TV.
I think that social media has both a positive and negative impact. A situation that I believe is both positive and negative is receiving news on social media. If I have time to spend on social media, I might as well learn something that is going on in society. However, the negative part is that by finding out about a current situation on the media, I won't be 100% certain that it is a trustworthy source. I think that social media should be used by someone who knows what the possible risks are of making public their life's, rather than a kid who is just learning about social media in their own with no previous knowledge.
After analyzing these both my results from the social media quiz and the statistic I found on Pew Research, I realized that social media has become an essential of my daily life. I think this is concerning because my knowledge on certain things has become dependent on social media. I plan on limiting my usage so that I can reduce this dependancy.
