Always Learning: Video Series

Project by Abigail Shih, 10th, Woodbridge High School

"My project is a series of short informational videos about sexual assault issues and solutions. My vision for this project is to help others become aware of problems specific to survivors and current events relating to sexual assault. Each video is usually about a problem and at the end of the video, there will be a charity/organization that you can donate to help the cause. These videos will be coming out each month and they are only about 5 minutes long, so be sure to take the time out of your day to learn a little more."

Abby works with IUSDWRA volunteers to produce videos every month. You may view the videos on our Instagram page! If you are interested in working on this project, feel free to reach out.

"What is Peer Pressure?"

August, 2021

Message:

Peer pressure occurs when a peer or group of peers influence you to change your attitudes, decisions, behaviors, etc.

The concept of peer pressure can be taken very lightly so I wanted to create a cartoon storyboard that can be easily understood by everyone. Statistics have shown that 90% of teens reported having experienced peer pressure at some point in their life. I was hoping that if children fully learn how to handle peer pressure, they wouldn’t have to deal with negative situations when they’re older.

If they are dealing with peer pressuring, they should go through the steps that are talked about in the cartoon! If these steps don’t work/you don’t have a trusted adult around you, there’s always the Kids Helpline anytime on 1800-55-1800!

A Series of Statements

Project by Amy Shephard, Junior at University High School

"I think this project is important because I think it’s become normalized for people to feel unsafe outside, and expected of us to protect ourselves instead of making the world a safer place. This project details all the common, everyday examples and sheds light on the issue, and my goal is for it to foster a community where we can all help and protect each other until we reach the dream goal of regulation and laws that help limit the problem."

Domestic Violence Awareness Month Week of Action Project

Submission by Isabella Yang, Sophomore at University High School

For an entire week in October 2021, we invited our volunteers to participate in a Week of Action, where each day, they are prompted with something to do to earn hours while learning about the significance of the month. Pictured on the side, one of the tasks was to create uplifting cards of empowerment for survivors of domestic violence.
