When I first entered college, I planned to pursue a degree in Health Services Management with the goal of working on a systems level to improve healthcare access and outcomes. I was drawn to the idea of fixing healthcare from behind the scenes—through leadership, policy, and organizational change. However, as I progressed through my undergraduate experience, my perspective began to shift through hands-on involvement in patient care and service-oriented roles.

Through volunteering, shadowing, and direct patient care experiences, I discovered how meaningful one-on-one interactions could be. Working closely with patients allowed me to see the impact of compassionate, functional, and individualized care—something I had not fully understood from a purely administrative lens. These experiences sparked a growing interest in occupational therapy, a profession that blends healthcare, advocacy, and holistic, patient-centered practice.

As I learned more about occupational therapy, I realized it aligned deeply with my values and strengths. OT allows me to support individuals in regaining independence while also addressing broader barriers to participation and quality of life. My academic journey reflects this evolution, demonstrating not only a shift in career goals, but also growth in self-awareness, leadership, and commitment to service. This Honors portfolio represents that journey and the experiences that shaped my decision to pursue a career in occupational therapy.
