In this concept you will learn about cyberbullying and how it links with a digitalized citizenship.
Cyberbullying is bullying that involves the use of digital technology. It usually takes place in social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. It is also regarded as repeated behavior which aims at threatening or shaming others through mobile phones (UNICEF, n.d.).
Cyberbullying can occur in many ways which may not only include threating only but also making fun of you through pictures which is called a "meme" or exposing an explicit picture of an individual without their permission on social media platforms or even making fun of somebody else's appearance on social media in a way that can end up her him/her emotionally, therefore cyberbullying can happen in many ways. So, it is very much important that as a learner you should be more careful about what you post online because it may hurt other's feelings even it may not be purposely so. Also, be careful about the type of content you may be making fun of on social media and make sure that you don not offend anyone.
As the targeted victims, you should be careful about the things you post online so that those who mostly like to hurt others or bullying others online should not get the chance. And you should not forget that a person's past always comes back of which some other day it may cost you a lot when of looking for a job, because it may affect a person's opportunity of getting a job just because of the reputation of your past.
Digital citizenship refers to making a norm of using technology in an appropriate and responsible way. This also means that you are being safe with your information, which is what I will teach my learners when they first begin to use the internet (preventchildabuse , n.d.).Â
