Abunan Heritage House, the home of the Iowak tribe of Benguet which has gotten quite famous for its mummies, is located in Sitio Domolpos, Tinongdan, Itogon. "Abunan" is known as a burial house where the centuries-old mummies, known as the great ancestors of the Iowak tribe were kept for different sacred ceremonial purposes like weddings, harvest, birth, and burials as well.
According to Ancient History, the community has 5 mummies namely: Matuday, Jaga-e, Ongiao, wiloly and Ticol, Children of Shomolpos and Colon, the first settlers of the place. Unfortunately, there are only four mummies under the care of the community at present due to an incident of theft, where, one of the mummies was taken. It happened when the mummies were introduced as a public attraction.
Mummification may not be done today but this is a strong representation of the early ancestor's practices that no one can portray either written or oral. Moreover, Abunan Heritage House is a piece of great evidence showing that there were early settlers in the area during the extensive practice of mummification in Cordillera.
