We hold a yearly competition, each year focusing on a different aspect of environmental pollution, and schools who choose to participate, will create an action plan to combat it. A group of mentors from I.A.S.C will assist them in the different chapters, the Elementary School Chapter, the Middle School Chapter, and High School Chapter. The action plans are judged by set guidelines ( you can find more information about the competition and the guidelines here) and I.A.S.C will assist the winning action plans to implement these plans in their communities and/or schools.

We are passionate about increasing environmental awareness and bringing it to the classroom to encourage our future leaders to gain experience tackling environmental issues. We hold a yearly competition, each year focusing on a different aspect of environmental pollution, and schools who choose to participate, will create an action plan to combat it. Our mentors at IASC assist with the implementation of the winning action plans, which will not only create leaders that are knowledgeable about our community, but also create the effective changes that our future leaders want to see their communities and schools, one small step at a time!

Our names are Maya and Mohana. We met each other through our school's Model United Nations team and finally worked together during Dartmouth's Model UN conference in March of 2021, amid a pandemic, virtually, and established IASC virtually as well. At the Model UN conference, we were representing Belgium as a dual delegation in the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and were combating air pollution. During our research for the competition, we were distraught by the amount of air pollution and how it was affecting people in the Southeast Asian region. It was a disaster. Many people were dying from lung cancer and air pollutants. It was then and there that we decided we wanted to make a difference. It All Starts in the Classroom was a solution we created for the conference to increase awareness among the youth. Both of us were immensely passionate about it at the conference and decided to make it happen in real life! These were the beginnings of IASC.
