  • AI can help generate:

    • Preliminary syllabus outlines

    • Ideas for module and unit titles

    • Suggestions for course content and learning objects

• Learning Objectives & Competency Descriptions:

  • AI can assist in drafting:

    • Clear learning objectives aligned with diverse taxonomies or frameworks 

    • Descriptions of competencies for inclusion in course landing pages or certificates

General purpose AI can offer support with:

• Text and Script Development:

  • AI can generate, revise, translate, and transform:

    • Text for reading materials

    • Scripts for audio or video lessons

• Video Content with Avatars:

  • Tools like HeyGen can create AI-generated videos with avatars

    • Note: Most features require a subscription

    • However, some limited video minutes are available for free and can be downloaded

• Image Generation:

  • AI can create specific visual content like icons and images (copyright-free) to enhance online pages

• • Generative AI will listen and write what the learner says, will listen and correct errors or give feedback on oral output, and will participate in a dialogue/role-play with the learner even in free versions. Teachers can create specific prompts that learners can copy and paste to guide the conversation. 

• • Use General Purpose AI to:

  • Develop quizzes of different types and at specific levels (Multiple Choice, True/False, Open Questions etc) 

  • Provide automatic feedback for learners to clarify errors 

There are also a number of specific tools that are widely used by educators to create quizzes and learning activities with automatic feedback. These include H5P, Quizzlet, Quizizz, Studystacks. 

• Use AI tools like Mentimeter, Wooclap or Answergarden to create real-time interactive plenary moments during your class or presentation. Suggestions include:

  • Keywords / wordclouds 

  • Polls 

  • Short responses
    
    

• Use AI enhanced boards like Padlet and Digiboard to enable learners to share textual, audio or audiovisual content and to give feedback on other learners’ work 

• Outreach Materials:
  AI can support the creation of communication tools and promotional materials to share or publicize course content and goals e.g. tweets, posts, video trailer scripts, press releases etc. 

• MOOCs

  • Federica WebLearning developed a new Mooc - in Italian, Spanish and English - called Teaching with AI: Tools which looks at all these ideas and more in some detail, with recommendations for specific tools to try out and suggested practice activities.
