An Exploration Based on Factum I and Factum II
An Exploration Based on Factum I and Factum II
A piece inspired by the pop art unit works by Robert Rauschenberg (Factum I and Factum II), I conducted my own experimental process using different materials combined to better understand the idea and mindset behind those two works. I used whatever materials I felt like would work together, or that I liked using, that I had currently at the time of the proposal. I dedicated a day off to working on this piece almost uninterrupted to stay within that mindset, so that I didn’t tempt myself to just try to produce a mere copy or imitation, but two simultaneous and similar works that would ultimately have some visual differences. Originally, I was going to try and make a more abstract piece, at least in comparison to what I ultimately produced, but I decided to incorporate some of my own style along with the mixed elements to make this exploration more of my own. Once I decided on this, I decided to draw on personal circumstances that arose somewhat recently as a backdrop and inspiration for certain elements like the flower petals, and while the figure was more so meant to represent myself, with the wool I had it became a combination of myself and the inspiration— my late grandmother.
