Values Integration for Developing Young Adults
Education in Human Values is the art of moulding the consciousness of the students so that they aspire to have good and noble ideals. Knowledge imparted in regular academic institution is only “information oriented”. It can be compared to the process of gathering raw materials; i.e., Education, merely for earning a living.
The success of any ‘Values’ program relies entirely on the attitude of the teacher because it is the teacher who has to provide the ‘role model’ for the child. As we already know, teaching of ‘Values’ cannot be done by lecturing about Values or treating ‘Values’ only as a separate subject. Both parents and teachers have a tremendous responsibility in that they have to practice the Values that they want the children to imbibe — and be an example to the children.

Once upon a time, in ancient India, Education used to be free. The students used to live in the home of the teacher, study and serve him. Upon completion of their studies, when it was time for them to leave, they would give something as thanksgiving. The teacher would normally ask for something that he wanted and the students would happily try to get it for him.
Once five students approached their teacher at the end of their education and asked him what he wanted as a token or gift to be given to him in return for all that he had imparted to them. The teacher smiled and asked them to get a bag of dried leaves. The students set off thinking that it should be a very easy task. They were very confident that they would get it very easily, for who would have use for dried leaves!
