What is the SIM PIN?
The SIM PIN (Personal Identification Number) code is intended to protect a SIM Card from unauthorized use. It is a feature available for every SIM Card
If MyCustomer®, is using this feature for the first time, he will be prompted for the default pin. MTN Default SIM PIN is 00000,
The PIN can be used to lock the SIM, It is also required to change the PIN from the default to the customers’ preferred PIN number.
In changing the pin it is preferable to inform MyCustomer® to use any 4 digit pin that will not be forgotten.
What happens if the customer inserts the wrong pin?
If the wrong PIN code is entered incorrectly three times the PIN gets blocked, MyCustomer® will be required to input the PUK code.
What happens when the PUK code is inserted?
MyCustomer® will be required to input correct PUK. The phone will then require the customer to enter a new PIN (We suggest choosing a PIN code other than 00000). Subsequently, MyCustomer® will have to enter a new PIN once more, for verification. MyCustomer® can henceforth, use the PIN to lock and unlock SIM)
What happens if the wrong PUK is inserted?
MyCustomer® has 9 attempts to enter the correct PUK code. After which the, SIM card will get damaged, and a SIM Swap required to retrieve the number.
How do I change my PIN?
MyCustomer® can also change SIM PIN on his phone by following the steps above (depending on the type of phone) “Change SIM Lock PIN”. Enter old PIN, Enter New PIN and New PIN for verification.
How do I deactivate the SIM PIN?
MyCustomer® can also deactivate the SIM PIN by following the steps in the table above.
I do not remember my PIN?
The customer should be informed that 3 tries are required and if inserted incorrectly, then the device will request for PUK number. Confirm if the customer has the PUK number or assist my customer with retrieving the PUK number following the required security validation.
