Emojis also known as smileys, are facial expression, or emotion in text conversations. They are small pictures used on smartphones, tablets, and other electronic devices to convey emotion or represent an object or symbol more concisely than a text statement.
Emoji’s are derived from a combination or group of characters which are sent via SMS. For Example: On INFINIX HOT 6X, charges of SMS when emojis are included in the text messages are based on the position they are placed in the text.
The below screenshot gives a clear insight on the number of characters in an emoji.
(A) When an emoji is used to start a text or used alone in a text/SMS it is equivalent to 92 characters and charge rate is N4.10 a page.
(B) When a message is typed containing 73 characters plus an emoji it is equivalent to 261characters and charge rate is N8.20 as two pages.
(C) When a message is typed containing 73 characters without an emoji the SMS is a page and charge rate is N4.10.
TIPS TO NOTE:
Charges are based on the number of characters (N4.10/160) which is dependent on the type of phone MyCustomer is using.
Visual Display of emoji is dependent on phone type.
The use of emoji in a text message is not the same as MMS. MMS has been decommissioned on the MTN network.
