Recording your IsoEcol 2022 Virtual Presentation


  • Oral video presentations should be 7 minutes (max).

  • Poster presentations can be Static (PDF) or 3 minutes as video.

  • The video format must be MP4, and static posters as a PDF.

  • Try to keep the video file size reasonable <ca. 300 MB to avoid online streaming issues.

  • Videos that exceed the time allotment above will be rejected.

What You Need to Get Started

  • An internet connected computer, laptop, or device with appropriate software

  • Headphones or ear buds with a working microphone

  • A camera (i.e., webcam)

The instructions below may vary slightly depending on PC/Mac or the software version.

Record your Presentation Using Webex

  1. Open your IsoEcol 2022 PowerPoint presentation on your desktop.

  2. Open the Webex app ( https://www.webex.com/downloads.html ) on PC or Mac. A free account and registration are required.

  3. In the Calendar section of the Webex app click on "Start a Meeting"

  4. Check the Settings gear to ensure your webcam, microphone, and speakers are all properly functioning.

  5. Click "Start Meeting" (you will now be hosting only yourself)

  6. Use the Share tab at the bottom, share your opened IsoEcol Powerpoint (ensure its in presentation mode)

  7. Start your Slide Show from the beginning, and when you are ready, select "Recorder" from the Webex menu.

  8. Once you are finished, click stop recording.

  9. Once you have ended the meeting, Webex may ask where to save the MP4 file (differs on PC vs Mac). In some environments (e.g. corporate Webex) it may be saved on the server cloud with an email link sent to you.

  10. Review your MP4 file, and if its good and within the time allotment, upload the presentation to the shared Google Drive folder (link will be sent to you by the organizers.

Webex is our preferred tool because it produces excellent quality, highly compressed, video files.

Record your Presentation Using PowerPoint

  1. Open your IsoEcol 2022 PowerPoint presentation on your desktop.

  2. On the menu bar, click on Slide Show -> Record Slide Show

OR

  1. Open your PowerPoint presentation and select "Record Slide Show"

  2. When you are ready, select the red Record button and begin speaking. You can pause the recording after each slide.

  3. Once done, press Stop to end the recording and use the ESC button on your keyboard.

  4. To preview your presentation, select "Slide Show/From Beginning" from the menu bar.

  5. To save your final recording, save the presentation as a video file (MP4) under "File" --> Export.

  6. Review your MP4 file, and if its good and within the time allotment, upload the presentation to the shared Google Drive folder (link will be sent to you by the organizers.

If you need to re-record slide segments, go back to Record Slide Show (Step 2), click "Clear" on the top right corner and select either "Clear Narration on Current Slide" or "Clear Narrations on All Slides".

The settings for camera and audio are also found on top right corner when in recording mode.

Record your Presentation Using MS Teams (corporate Office 365)

If you have MS Teams on a corporate configuration this may be an option for recording your presentation .

  1. Start a new Teams meeting (top right corner).

  2. Ensure the camera and microphone are working.

  3. Select the "Share Screen" and then open your PPT presentation from the Browse Tab.

  4. When you are ready to record, click on the "..." (more actions menu) in the meeting control and then select "Start Recording".

  5. Once you have finished your PPT presentation, in the same "..." menu, select "Stop recording".

  6. A message "Recording is being saved" appears and this file will be saved to your personal MS Teams folder.

  7. When the recorded video is ready in MS Stream, a message will be sent to your email.

  8. Review your MP4 file, and if its good and within the time allotment, upload the presentation to the shared Google Drive folder (link will be sent to you by the organizers.

Send your MP4 or PDF presentation to IsoEcol Organizers

Each presenter will be sent by email a link to a shared Google Drive folder to upload their presentation.

Kindly use a clear file naming convention that will help us identify the presenter: PresenterLastname.MP4 or PresenterLastname.PDF.
