Alpine Hiking

A vigorous sub-alpine hike on the mountains around Lunz with views on the lake and the alpine landscape. Includes a picnic stop on a view point. A bagged lunch will be provided. Good fitness is required (approx. 12km – check out here), along with proper hiking boots and appropriate outdoor clothing (water, colder temperature etc.). Depending on weather conditions you might want to consider jumping into the lake, because we will pass by lake Lunz. There we will also pass by the research facilities, such as experimental flumes and the biological station. We will finish our hike with drinks and food in a local restaurant, before taking public transport (10’ bus ride) back to Kartause.

Whitewater Rafting on the Salza River

The white water rafting tour on the Salza River is one of the most beautiful rafting tours in Europe. Known as the "Styrian Grand Canyon" the Palfauer Konglomartenschlucht is among the most popular places in the nature park Steirische Eisenwurzen.

A mixture of wild and calm passages makes the tour pleasant for everyone. Additionally, you can test your courage by jumping from the Wasserlochsteg or by swimming in the white water. These dares are, however, dependent on the water-level. The water of the Salza River sometimes even flows upwards. That's no joke, just ask your rafting guide!

  • Ensure you bring swimming clothing and towel.

  • Rafting and equipment follow strict safety rules.

  • Rafting doesn't require any previous knowledge, except swimming! Our guides will tell you everything you need to know

  • The bus transfer is appox. 35 min from Kartause Gaming to the rafting camp.
