All research studies and experiments conducted on living things must obtain approval from the Ibn Sina National College for Medical Studies Institutional Research Review Board (ISNC-IRRB) to safeguard research participants.
Royal Decree No. (M / 59) of 14/09/1431 H was issued, approving the law of research ethics on living creatures, which was prepared by the National Committee of Bioethics. Its objectives are to establish general principles and necessary regulations for handling living creatures, their parts, or genetic material in research settings, adhering to professional ethics and ensuring compatibility with Islamic principles. The document comprises fifteen chapters, organised by topics and situations governed by the law (http://bioethics.kacst.edu.sa/).
In accordance with Royal Decree No. (M / 59) and the National Committee of Bioethics (NCBE), King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), ISNC-IRRB is established and committed to protecting research participants.
The primary function of ISNC-IRRB is to adhere to the law of research ethics on living creatures, which aims to monitor the implementation of bioethics research standards. Its objectives include enhancing health, preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, and psychological aspects while upholding human dignity, justice, and beneficence. Additionally, it seeks to maintain individuals’ rights and ensure that communities adhere to Islamic law, traditions, and customs of Saudi Arabia.
The IRRB is established and functions as per the criteria stated in the Saudi Arabian Implementing Guidelines of law of ethics on living creatures.
