Description

Teachers from: Martinique, École Léon Lin (ex Le Verger) , Ducos , Sicily, School Edmondo de Amicis , Comiso and Greece 8th Primary school Palaio Faliro , Athens, wanted through this project to give the opportunity to pupils of European Islands (and overseas) to meet, to learn to know each other, to share their ways of life and Culture, and to work on a co operative project based on literature and writing.

Objectives

  1. -Develop citizenship values: To allow our students and schools to open up to the world surrounding them. Pupils met other school children from Europe and from the world. Students developed social and civic skills and answered the question “What is it like to live on an Island and in Europe?”
  2. Develop in our students their Culture, Literature and their knowledge: To allow our pupils , the possibilty to spread our Heritage, through our Culture and Arts and its expression by sharing it with the other Islands, and presenting our famous Artists (Dancers, Musicians, Comedians, Painters…)The greater part of the project was to delve into the magic world of popular literature such as legends and tales that form the basis of our societies’ beliefs.
  3. Develop their competencies of working together and to use ITC on a collaborative project of writing. Pupils also created together a book of Legends, that is published on our Twinspace, but, they also published documents like (PPT, videos, photos, emagazines, blogs)
  4. Develop their competencies in learning and speaking their mother tongue, their regional Language (Creole) and their foreign language (English/French/Creole/Sicilian/Greek ), by writing letters, emails, speaking to their penpals via skype or Visio conferences.

This project is an exchange of good practices in teaching and transmission of cultural and literary knowledge. In particular, we wanted to give our pupils the desire to learn by discovering, and producing writings (tales and legends).

We expected them to have a better success in their schooling, by opening their mind to other cultures and civilizations.

Everyday, we are responsible of young pupils, who often do not know what they do at school, we wanted to subscribe them positively into learning. We wanted to allow them to be actively involved in acquiring their own knowledge, while giving them all our support and express our confidence in their possibilities to succeed.....
