5/1/19 Housing Committee Meeting

Objectives for the summer:

  • Fundraising: any fundraising would have to work around the other efforts that are going on (lighthouse, power company)
  • Need to focus in on what our project will be before asking for any money
  • Present our work to the ICDC board
  • Talk with Habitat for Humanity again to see if there is any way they could be involved.
  • Create "Road map to housing" poster–post in public places (Molly)
  • Housing forum or info session where we present our work to interested community members who are only here in the summer
  • Molly will contact Malcolm Woollen (architect) who drew up plans for a duplex that could be sited on Coomb's Mtn.

Questions about the survey data:

  • Is there a correlation between renting and being unhappy with housing situation?
  • Could a Habitat for Humanity project proceed parallel to another housing project? Probably not because they would both require separate fundraising. Funds from last year's triathlon went towards Habitat for Humanity. Could that money be transferred if we were to do a different project not with Habitat?
  • Is there great opposition to duplexes? It is not allowed in the current zoning & a special town meeting would be required to change it.
  • Could large landowners could donate land and receive a tax deduction. Yes, but requires subdividing.

May 23 potluck

  • Through discussion, we agreed that the goal of this event is to:
    • Provide a chance for additional feedback from the year-round community through discussion and comment cards
    • Move towards selecting a project; move from talk --> action
    • Present the survey data and collect reactions
    • Provide the various boards (church, ICDC) with information that can help them make decisions
