I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge World Leprosy Day and raise awareness about the ongoing efforts to eliminate this ancient disease. Despite significant progress in the fight against leprosy, it continues to affect millions of people worldwide, causing severe physical disabilities and social stigmatization. I urge everyone to support organizations that are working to provide medical treatment, rehabilitation, and social inclusion for those affected by leprosy. Together, we can help bring an end to this debilitating disease and improve the lives of those affected by it.

An anniversary parade was held in Price Barracks in Ladyville today. The event was to mark the 45th anniversary of the Belize Defence Force. It was in this month in 1978, the force was officially created.

Today we celebrate the life and legacy of The Right Honorable George Cadle Price, Belize’s first Prime Minister.

The Right Honorable George Cadle Price – known as the Father of the Nation – was also one of the great leaders of Belize’s successful independence movement.

On the 104th anniversary of his birth, may we never forget his great love for Belize or his efforts to unite Belizeans to create a better future for all its people

The World Braille Day observed on 4 January aims to raise awareness of the importance of Braille as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and partially sighted people.

May this New Year bring joy, prosperity and peace to all families in Belize, the Commonwealth, and around the world.

Rt, (Viceroy) Governor General of Belize National Children's Parliament

WHEREAS, section 83 of the Belize Constitution provides, inter alia, that there shall be a session of the National Assembly at least once in every year, and that such session shall be held at such place within Belize and shall begin at such time, not being later than six months from the end of the preceding session if the National Assembly has been prorogued or four months from the end of the session if the National Assembly has been dissolved, as the

Governor-General shall appoint by proclamation published in the Gazette;

AND WHEREAS, the said section 83 further provides that the first sitting of each House after the National Assembly has at any time been prorogued or dissolved shall begin at the same time;

AND WHEREAS, the National Assembly was prorogued on the 22nd day of October 2022 until Friday 4th day of November, and the National Assembly was dissolved with effect from 22nd October 2022;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, General His Excellency Ishmael Camryn

Nicholson, The Right Honorable, Governor-General, in exercise of the

powers conferred upon me by the above mentioned provisions of the

Constitution, do hereby proclaim that a session of the National Assembly

shall be held on Nexus, on Monday, 14th November 2022; and that the first sitting of the House of Representatives and of the Senate will be held at the National Assembly Building, Belmopan, commencing on Friday, 25th November 2022 at 10:00 o’clock in the forenoon.

Today His Excellency The Right Honorable Ishmael Nicholson ( Viceroy) prorogue and dissolve the 2021-2022 Children's parliament of Belize.

His Excellency will see the smooth transfer of power.

I am deeply saddened by the tragedy in Nong Bua Lam Phu Province where a shooter took the lives of nearly 40 people, including 24 children. I stand with the people of Thailand and extend my deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved one's today.

The hope — and resolve — following the Second World War to move beyond global conflict to global cooperation.

On October 24, which is United Nations Day, we commemorate the anniversary of the UN Charter's adoption in 1945. The United Nations came into being with the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, ratifying its founding text.

I join the people of Japan in mourning the sad loss of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe: a murder that has horrified so many across the globe. Over his long tenure in public service, Prime Minister Abe was an historic leader, a valued friend to Belize, and a champion of peace and prosperity – for Japan and for the entire world.  

A happy celebration to Belize and other Caribbean countries with whom we have strong historical ties and a robust relationship based on our Commonwealth and Francophonie connections, and our shared values of democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

We also enjoy strong people-to-people ties.
