Class Structure

Beginning and end of each class

At the beginning and end of each class the students line up in grade order facing the instructors. 

At the command “seiza” the instructors and students kneel. A student will then state the following:

Beginning: “Sensei ni, rei” (all bow, symbolising mutual respect, Sensei rising first)

“Sempai ni, rei” (students bow to the teacher/s)

End: "Sensei ni, domo arigato gozaimashita, rei” (all bow, Sensei rising first)

“Sempai ni, domo arigato gozaimashita, rei” (students bow to the teacher)

(meaning “teacher/s, thank you very much for the lesson”)
