The PeeRS (Peer Racial Socialization in Adolescents) study extends prior work of Dr. Golden, by examining the verbal and non-verbal racial messages communicated by high school students. This study focuses on the use of qualitative methodology to more fully capture the voices and experiences of youth.
The Attitudes toward Action Study is a measurement development study. Critical action has been identified as a potential protective mechanism for racially minoritized youth who experience racism. However, little is known about youth's perceptions regarding the effectiveness of various civic behaviors. This study takes the first step toward remedying this gap to examine the nuances of the protective nature of critical action in the lives of youth.
The iRYSE Lab has partnered with Frayser Community Schools to assess their general climate and racial climate of their schools to better understand students experiences. Students' experiences of the school environment and interpersonal relationships within that environment have direct implications for their mental health, psychosocial functioning, and academic performance. As such, our partnership with Frayser Community schools will amplify student voices to ensure a healthy and equitable environment for youth with youth.
