Objective: Profile atmospheric ozone vs. altitude on a high-altitude balloon flight.
Status: Testing.
Target window: Spring 2026
Structure
Raspberry Pi powered by a 5V power bank; portable and self-contained system
Circuit Boards
Sensors soldered to individual boards; integrated into a LoRa HAT connected to the Raspberry Pi for communication
Payload
Nylon frame for durability; insulated with XPS film for thermal stability; acrylic panel allows UV exposure; 3D-printed PETG compartment houses ozone sensor; bottom opening aligns camera lens for imaging
Code
Python, adapted from existing sensor code for efficiency and reliability
Core Functions
Logs UV, ozone, and GPS data into a CSV file; timestamps and organizes readings for analysis
Imaging
Captures an image every minute; stores sequential photos locally on an SD card
Headless Operation
Auto-runs on boot; no manual interface required once powered
Rationale
Ensures continuous, autonomous environmental data collection; minimizes human intervention while maintaining synchronized sensor + visual datasets
