IR Lab

@ Amherst College

Welcome!

The IR Lab studies global politics, with a particular emphasis on conflict studies. The lab employs a variety of research tools, including data collection, data mining, and qualitative analysis.  In addition, the lab seeks to create space for intelligent and informed debates on international politics at Amherst College. The lab is run by Eleonora Mattiacci, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Amherst College.

Project 1: Lobbying during Civil Wars

Almost 80% of countries involved in civil wars lobby the US. Why? What do they hope to achieve? Are they successful? We collect data to better analyze these puzzles.

Project 2: Environmental Destruction

We leverage both primary and secondary sources to discover the extent to which the environment is shaped by wars and conflict.
