Financial Controller for Secretariat of Communication Students (COSA)
December 2022 — January 2024
Joining my first university club at IIUM was a decision driven by a simple goal: to gain knowledge that would benefit my studies. I chose to be part of the Communication Student Association (COSA), a Kuliyyah-based society under the Kulliyyah of Communication, hoping to sharpen my academic and organizational skills. However, what I found was far more meaningful. Not only did I grow intellectually, but I also got to know many inspiring individuals and made valuable friendships that truly enriched my university life. My journey with COSA began when I was appointed as the Assistant for the Planning and Development Bureau, where I assisted in organizing events, managing timelines, and brainstorming program concepts that aligned with students' academic and personal growth.
Alhamdulillah, through hard work and the guidance of my seniors, I was entrusted with a greater responsibility in the following tenure as the Financial Controller. This role taught me discipline and accountability as I managed the society’s budget, handled financial reports, and ensured all transactions were transparent and in order. Holding this position was a turning point—it challenged me to balance leadership with integrity. Over two years, my involvement in COSA flew by, but it was packed with experiences that shaped my character and skills. I learned to communicate effectively, lead a team, make sound decisions under pressure, and stay committed to a collective goal. Most importantly, COSA gave me a sense of belonging and a platform to grow beyond the classroom. Looking back, I am deeply grateful for the journey. It was more than just a club, it was a chapter of self-discovery.
December 2023 – December 2024
My main purpose in joining the IPRMSA IIUM Chapter was to enhance my hands-on skills in communication, particularly in the field of public relations. Alhamdulillah, my involvement has significantly deepened both my knowledge and practical understanding of PR. Through impactful programmes such as the PR Visit and PR Lecture Series, I had the chance to directly engage with professionals in the industry, gaining insights that no textbook could fully offer. These activities allowed us to connect theory with real-world practices, giving me a clearer picture of what it truly means to be a PR practitioner. My first position in IPRMSA was as the Executive for the Media Office something completely out of my comfort zone. I had minimal exposure to media-related tasks, but I took it as a challenge. Throughout the tenure, I learned step by step how to handle content creation, visual design, and managing social media platforms effectively, which in return boosted both my creativity and confidence.
As my journey progressed, I was entrusted with the role of Head of the Treasurer Office. This was a familiar yet equally demanding position, as the job scope was almost 90% similar to my previous role as Financial Controller in COSA. I was responsible for preparing budget proposals, handling all financial records, and ensuring transparency in every expenditure an essential role in maintaining the integrity and sustainability of the society’s operations. The experience allowed me to refine my financial management skills and taught me the importance of trust, precision, and accountability. Over time, IPRMSA became more than just a platform for professional development it became a place where I discovered my hidden capabilities and nurtured my passion for PR. The journey was filled with challenges, but those very challenges became the moments that shaped me into a more competent and confident individual.
Serving as a registration committee member during Taaruf Week 23/24 was truly a brilliant and eye-opening experience. It gave me the rare opportunity to work closely and liaise with IIUM’s upper management, including the Residential and Services Department (RSD) and various Mahallah offices, which taught me a lot about how things operate behind the scenes in university administration. I was exposed to different work styles and professional communication, which really broadened my perspective and sharpened my adaptability. Beyond the technical tasks, what made the experience even more meaningful was the chance to engage with the new students. Many of them came with questions, worries, and excitement, and being able to share my experiences and offer guidance felt genuinely rewarding. It reminded me of my own Taaruf days, and this time, I got to be the one offering support and encouragement—something I consider a full-circle moment in my campus journey.

Becoming a trainer for INSPIRE Club IIUM has been one of the most fulfilling roles I’ve taken on during my university journey. One of the main reasons I joined the club in the first place was to learn how to create impactful and engaging Latihan Dalam Kumpulan (LDK) modules, and Alhamdulillah, it turned out to be so much more than that. I still remember the late-night brainstorming sessions with my fellow trainers, where we exchanged creative ideas, designed activities, and carefully crafted each module to suit different student groups. It was a fun yet intellectually enriching experience, blending creativity with empathy to make sure our content could truly connect with young minds. The best feeling, though, is seeing those modules come to life during our school outreach programs—watching the students laugh, participate, and reflect during our sessions genuinely made all the hard work worth it. It’s a blessing to know that something we created in a discussion room could spark a moment of joy or learning in someone else’s life.

Joining Ad-Dhiya Production under IIUM TV was one of those unexpected turns in my university life that turned out to be incredibly rewarding. It all started so suddenly one of my friends casually invited me to join, and without much thought, I said yes. Little did I know, my first task would come in faster than I could prepare for. I still vividly remember being away at a camp, completely off-campus, when I received a message saying I’d been assigned to design the organization chart poster. With limited internet and barely enough time, it was honestly one of the most challenging tasks I’ve ever taken on. But somehow, I pulled through. That moment tested my ability to adapt under pressure and showed me the real pace of working in a media team. From that point onward, I became more involved in the visual side of production, learning to communicate visually and creatively through each design. It also gave me the opportunity to collaborate with a passionate and talented team, which pushed me to improve my skills and think more critically. What started as a spontaneous decision ended up becoming a space where I grew, explored my creativity, and built meaningful connections.
Working as a part-timer at the Calaqisya Pop Store in Isetan, Suria KLCC was an eye-opening experience that gave me a real taste of what it’s like to work in a fast-paced retail environment. Being in such a prestigious location where customers come from all walks of life, I had to quickly adapt to different personalities and needs whether it was assisting a tourist trying to understand local styles or helping a regular customer find the perfect outfit for an event. One of the most memorable parts was during peak hours or sale seasons, when the store would be packed and we had to juggle customer service, restocking, and maintaining the store’s visual display all at once. It really taught me the value of patience, teamwork, and staying composed under pressure. Plus, representing a well-known modest fashion brand like Calaqisya made me feel proud, knowing that I was part of something that celebrates both style and identity. That short stint not only improved my communication skills, but also gave me a deeper appreciation for the hard work behind the scenes in retail.
Although my time working as a part-timer at Khatam in KL East Mall wasn’t very long, it left a lasting impression on me. From the very beginning, the atmosphere at the store felt warm and welcoming, and I’m genuinely grateful for the friendships I built during that short period. Despite being new, the team treated me like I had always been part of the family. We laughed, helped each other through hectic hours, and shared stories during quiet shifts. The experience taught me about the beauty of teamwork, sincerity in service, and how even brief encounters can turn into beautiful memories when you’re surrounded by the right people.
