As of 1 Jan 2018, I have decided to get my own domain and website to consolidate my materials. I'll be leaving this site, and the previous one, as they are, for continuity and posterity. You can get more exciting updates from me at my new site: irfandarian.com
Welcome to my portfolio site. I'm Irfan, a design and media educator from Singapore.
This site leverages the functionalities of the updated Google Sites. However, for reasons of continuity and posterity, I would still keep a link to my old site (using the previous version of Google Sites) HERE .
This site is a consolidation of my professional work since 2003. They contain slides, photos and videos of various events and programmes that I'm significantly a part of. I would also be sharing works done by my students, to give added contexts to the things that I'm doing in SST.
This site is also the place for me to share my thoughts and ideas with other educators out there. Hopefully we can become better educators through these sharings and reflections.
I hope that you would partake in this learning with me, sharing with me your views and thoughts, if you don't mind. Do gmail or iCloud me at irfandarian or connect with me on any of my other social media platforms. I would love to hear from you.
Cheers.
Irfan Darian

1) Earlier last week I felt privileged to be selected as a participant from Singapore for the Teacher Training Conference organised by Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) to be held in Switzerland. I hope to be able to network with fellow educators and related professionals from all over the world.
Here's wishing me all the best!
2) I managed to host some visitors from Fuhua Primary School on Friday, 11 August 2017. I did a sharing session with them, primarily focused on the development of SST's Maker Programme, and what's in store for the future. I gave out some tips and advice on how they can get the ball rolling, so to speak. My hope is that the sharing has been fruitful and I wish them the very best in their endeavours.
Some feedback from the visitors are reflected below.
3) So on 15 Aug 2017, it will be the last day that the Paper App team would be having their Public Stream for their app users. For me it has been a great journey so far, especially for someone who can't really sketch well, but who has nevertheless been blessed with a good stream of ideas to work and sketch on.
Over the years I never knew that I can amass over 8k followers. But it is definitely not about these numbers, but rather about gaining the confidence to share what I have. And indeed the Paper app did feature a couple of my sketches too, and for that I feel truly blessed and thankful.
All in all, it was great while it lasted, and I do wish to be continuously inspired to sketch out even more ideas, even without the publicity of the Public Stream. Here's to wishing more sketches and ideas.
4) On 22 August, the ADMT department and ArKidecture conducted a session to nurture students' interest in architecture. 4 architects from SAA Architects spent some time with about 2 dozen Secondary 2 SST students, to introduce to them career opportunities in the field of architecture, as well as to help facilitate their current architecture design projects. More information and photos about the session are on the 'Teacher/Leader' tab.
With a little bit more down time this one week. I've managed to update some parts of my site. I've updated some screenshots and comments about the use of the Travefy.com and Canva.com sites in both my personal and professional capacities respectively. They can be found in the media | apps tab above.
I would also like to showcase some of the short films done by my students as part of their Videography module during the first half of the year. Some of them can be viewed HERE. One of those that I would like to feature can be viewed below.
1) The beginning of the year has been great so far, with preparations for the 2 key events that I'm handling taking shape, slowly but surely. The 2 events are the:
More information are available from the teacher | leader tab above
2) On a follow up note, I am glad to document my use of the Trello site and app to manage the above 2 events. More details will be made available at the media | apps tab above, once I've fully gone through an entire project cycle with the app.
3) I've made some updates to the Architecture Design blog showcase. Link to the showcase is: http://2016architecturedesign.blogspot.sg/ . Additionally I am also glad to inform that the Info-communications Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA), in collaboration with the National Library Board (NLB) has also invited SST students, and specifically the ADMT department, to showcase the students' works from their World Expo 2016 project, from 4 April 2017 to 17 April 2017. Some pictures from the displays can be viewed in the 'Celebrations' tab.
4) The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has also invited SST to showcase their students' architectural models as part of their Urban Planning Festival. The models will be up for display at the URA City Gallery from 8 March 2017 till 28 April 2017. Some pictures from the festival can be viewed in the 'Celebrations' tab too.
5) Continuing my Professional Development (PD) journey, I have made the decision to work on my Apple Teacher certification, and am happy to say that I have received it on 29 March 2017. You can view more details about the Apple Teacher certification here.
As I'm heading towards the end of the school year, I thought it is a good time for me to reflect upon professional journey so far. I'd like to include the highlights since the last update:
The past few months have been really busy for me, with lots of deliverables that need to be done. Nonetheless it has been a satisfying one too, given the amount of affirmations and attention that some of the programmes that I am involved have been receiving:
2. The Maker Lab was also used in collaboration to enhance the learning experience and visit of our visitors from Kaga City, Japan. Here's a video of their overall experience.
3. I was also significantly involved in hosting some of the visitors to SST, specifically the visit by senior officers from Nanyang Polytechnic. It was an enjoyable experience hosting them. For pictures of the visit, and comments made by them, you can check them out at my networking page
4. I was also involved in a full-day PD session with a Lab School participant from RDFZ, China, one of SST's partner school, and another, Mr James Maloney from Anglican Church Grammar School, Australia. It was a great experience sharing ideas and strategies with counterparts from other parts of the world. I hope that I have been able to help significantly, and maybe plant a seed, as they continue with their respective professional journeys. I wish them the very best.
5. For my own professional expertise sharing, I was also actively involved in an internal Demo Slam session, followed up with being a presenter for a Brown Bag session. For an idea on what are the things that I presented, please go to the developing page for more details.
