Steve Jobs is the creator of the biggest technological company in the world, Apple. He was an absolute genius and was ahead of his time despite his questionable work environment and attitude toward his employees. This interview shows you a little bit on how he thinks and how he made Apple into the dynasty it has become. (click the image of Steve Jobs to watch a short video)
Now after watching that interview you can see some of the logic that Steve lived his life by. But, along with that something we can hopefully live by and what I think has been a point in my Intro to Composition and Literature class. We are often told that's just how it is. Or it is what it is. But why? Nothing ever changes until someone starts the change. So something I believe Mat (my professor) has been trying to point out in this class is what is below the surface. Yes we can see what the words say directly, but what was the intention behind what was said? Why is it so important to know where we came from, where we are, or where we’re going? Now obviously this is an English class not an analyzing life class. However literature a lot of the time is about analyzing life. We are analyzing the author, his/her past and why they said what they said. Oftentimes when we are kids we have these wild ideas of what we wanted to do when we were older. At first I wanted to be a rockstar, and then I wanted to be an archeologist, but not a real one, one like Indiana Jones where there was fighting bad guys and adventure. Then I wanted to be a doctor, now I want to be a Criminal Defense attorney. And as we are little and say all these things, at first people entertain the idea with us because we're cute children. But now that we're older we’re expected to have this figured out and at least pretend like we know what we want to do with our lives.
Through all of these changes there's one job from my childhood that I do want to keep. Ever since I was 5 I wanted to be a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, I remember watching the cowboys games with my dad and just waiting until they showed glimpses of them. I carry this dream with me now, and one day I will be one. But all throughout school and the older I got the more people would tell me I’m crazy and I can't do that. I don't fit the criteria, I’m not pretty enough, whatever. But why sometimes when we are kids our imagination and the jobs we want to be are the greatest ideas. Our innocence and lack of experience tells us we can do anything, which is something we should hold on to. Our imagination has brought us some of the most famous literature and composition in the world. We wouldn't have the most classic and famous artists, authors, directors, actors, etc. without our imagination and what our minds can do if we don't limit ourselves.
