Challenged books are novels or nonfiction books that have gone through a formal process where a complaint is filed and a committee works to justify the piece of literature. It may progress to a hearing.
A banned book is one where the book has been removed from a library, classroom, and curriculum because objectionable material couldn't be justified and was found to detract from the book's educational value. Often this is a result of lack of library or educational policy knowledge.
