Ira Peters is a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and long-time community supporter who has dedicated much of his life to serving both his country and the people around him.
With deep family roots in the Kinmount and Trent Lakes area stretching back more than a century, Ira has always felt a strong connection to this community and the people who call it home. His dedication to helping others began during his time serving in the Canadian Armed Forces, where he learned the value of teamwork, responsibility, and working together toward common goals. Those experiences helped shape the practical, community-focused approach he brings to public service today.
Following his military service, Ira built a successful career in the skilled trades and as a business owner. Through decades of hands-on work, leadership, and management experience, he developed a strong understanding of problem-solving, hard work, and the importance of supporting local communities.
He has also remained actively involved in organizations and initiatives dedicated to supporting veterans, seniors, and strengthening communities, including NATO initiatives, the Royal Canadian Legion, the Royal Canadian Air Force Association, seniors’ advisory committees, nursing home accreditation initiatives, and veteran advocacy work throughout the region.
Community involvement has always been central to Ira’s life. Over the years, he has volunteered countless hours supporting veterans, youth programs, and local initiatives, including involvement with the Children’s Air Cadets program. Ira believes strong communities are built through service, connection, and neighbours looking out for one another.
Outside of his professional and volunteer work, Ira enjoys spending time with his family, riding his motorcycle, helping at the Legion, gardening, and recently becoming a beekeeper. He is also a passionate animal lover who enjoys supporting local events and organizations throughout the area. Whether attending Music in the Park in Kinmount, visiting the local market, or participating in community events and functions, Ira values staying connected with residents and supporting the vibrant spirit of the community.
A fun fact about Ira is that in his younger years, he played drums in a band alongside his siblings, something that reflects both his love of music and the strong importance family has always held in his life.
Those who know Ira know him as someone who genuinely cares about people. He believes in treating everyone with respect, listening to concerns, and working together to build a stronger future for all members of the community...permanent, seasonal, young, and old alike.
