The CLIL approach
02/07/2021
9h to 14h
Being able to work at ease in foreign contexts has proven to be a key employability element for VET students. Teaching and learning methodologies, such as CLIL, have allowed VET students and teachers to get used to using a foreign language in class, resulting in a better provision to VET students of one of the key work competences: the knowledge of a foreign language deeply contextualised in a specific work environment. This session will share the results of a European project on CLIL, as well as CLIL teaching practices, CLIL training for teachers and a CLIL community for VET teachers all over Europe.

Vocational education has at its core to get students ready for job in a continuous changing globalised labour market. Multinational corporations with branches all over the world are very used to work in multidisciplinary teams which not actually work at the same site, nevertheless they work together. Using the PBL methodology beyond class boundaries could help vocational students to later face this challenge. In this workshop, online tools and ideas will be shared to be able to use this methodology online.

More and more vocational systems in Europe have included in their educational vocational pathways the apprenticeship system, which allows the students to have a more real and authentic experience while they are being trained at vocational schools. At the same time, the links between vocational schools and companies are being reinforced. This workshop will look at the different apprenticeships systems in Europe, how much they converge and/or differ, and how students from all over Europe could benefit from each other due to an apprentice stay in a foreign country.
