About the Institute
The Institute for Political Economy and Development (IPEAD), known in Korean as 정치경제발전연구소 (Jeongchi Gyeongje Baljeon Yeonguso), is a research institute founded in 2016, dedicated to the study of theoretical and practical issues in political economy and development and to connecting its research outputs to academic and public debate in Korea and beyond. The Institute undertakes critical and interdisciplinary research in such fields as political economy, development, institutions, institutionnal economics, social theory, and public policy, and contributes to knowledge production and scholarly exchange through journal articles, books, conference papers, research reports, columns, and other research publications.
Holding a unique identification number officially issued by the National Tax Service of Korea (Republic of Korea) since 2016, the Institute operates on an independent and sustained research basis in order to examine major questions surrounding political economy and development. Its research addresses a wide range of issues, including structural change, institutional conditions, historical transformation, inequality, welfare, labour, technology, regional dynamics, and global development, with an emphasis on both theoretical rigour and real-world relevance.
IPEAD is guided by the principles of academic rigour, public engagement, critical reflection, and interdisciplinary dialogue. Through these commitments, it seeks to advance deeper understanding of political economy and development and to contribute to the accumulation of public knowledge linking research and society.
