Resume
Who is Ioni?
My full name is Ionatán Biniamin Maghidman, I go by ioni (pronounced EonE). Originally from Brazil, São Paulo, where I lived for 15 years (I am fluent in both Portuguese and Spanish). I'm based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, where I have been living since 2017, now as a citizen of Australia. I graduated the bachelor of Games Design of RMIT University with high distinction in 2022.
During my second year of university, my group and I received the Dean's List Award for "excellence, critical inquiry, and collegiate teamwork on our group project, Lost in Train Station. Second Year University, 2021." Later, upon graduating, I received the Vice-Chancellor’s List Award, for "finishing in the top two per cent of RMIT higher education students in 2022."
When I first started learning game development, I couldn't make my mind up for my main areas of interest, between 3D Art and Programming. Over time, I ended up fusing my interests into a career as a Technical Artist. Some of my main responsabilities include creating and maintaining art pipelines and implementation, shader and vfx programming, performance optimization and profiling, 3D sculpting and modelling, character rigging, etc.
I pride myself in being multidisciplinary between the world of art and code especially because it makes me a more effective communicator. Knowing how to tie all the separate technical aspects a game's production into a cohesive final product enables me to bridge the gap between different people with different specialties in a team.
As a person, I do best working with other people, even though I am perfectly capable of individual effort. I am clear with my words, but always strive to be considerate and kind when speaking. On the other end, I am also a strong listener who is receptive of feedback and who doesn't constructivism in bad faith. My friends describe me as "someone who loves communicating" (aka, I talk a lot lol).
In terms of what videogames I play, I like a wide range of genres, like RPGs, rougelikes, narrative adventures, horror, singleplayer shooters, etc. Here are some of my favourite games of all time in no particular order: Skyrim, Slay the Spire, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, The Binding of Isaac, Hades, Return of the Obra Dinn, Outer Wilds, The Talos Principle, etc. But outside videogames, I also looooove board games (especially those which involve social aspects) such as Dungeons and Dragons, One Night Werewolf, Coup, Catan, Sheriff of Nottingham, etc.
But outside of games, I enjoy spending my time reading books (especially dystopian fictions!), bouldering, playing music (guitar, can kinda sing), learning new languages (currently Japanese!), nature photography, and another endless list of other hobbies!
Experience
2022 - Present: Champion Data
Currently I work as a Motion Graphics Designer for Champion Data in the Live Broadcast department, delivering TV and Live Venue graphics for sports in Australia and abroad, such as footy, cricket, golf, tennis, etc. utilizing engines such as Unreal, Unity, VizArt and others. My main responsibilities are development of art pipelines, programming, optimization, shaders and vfx. Below are some notable clients I haved worked with (from left to right, Fox Footy, Channel 7, Tennis Australia, Australian Rules Footbal and Liv Golf):
2022 - 2024: Garganta
As the final year project for my bachelor of Games Design at RMIT, I developed a game called Garganta with 3 fellow students, which we continued after graduating, for a total of a little over 2 years of non full time development. I wore a lot of hats for this game, but predominantly Production and Technical Art. The full release is now on Steam. The game has also been displayed publicly in multiple notable events:
SXSW Sydney 2024 - Indie Showcase
PAX 2023 - Indie Showcase
Fortress 2023 - Lan Party
2021 December - 2022 March: Mighty Serious
I interned in Mighty Serious during my time in University, where I aided the design team in the development of a training software for elderly care staff. I organized all the existing information into concise documentation, as well as finding new optimizations for future updates.
2020 - 2022: Mount Scopus Memorial College
The start of my career was in education! I worked in a primary school for 2 years, where I ran a technology workshop, focused on showing kids the basics of useful tools available in an iPad, such as video editing, digital painting, introductory coding, etc. I owe lots of my communication skills to this experience, because as the saying goes: "If you can explain it to a child, you can explain it to anyone!"
