With Resource Conservation and Sustainable Tourism Costa Rica study abroad, it was a journey to say the least. There was many trials of me having to face my fear of bugs in my ecosystem around me I went in with the study tour, knowing that there was going to be a lot of nature around us, but I didn’t know to the extent of it. They were in our rooms. They were on my bed. They’re in the bathroom. There is no safe space for me so it was a little rough. But going to all these places, it was magic. Going to visit the indigenous community was amazing because we slept right in there. I slept in a tent with bug netting around me so it was wonderful to be able to be there and still feel safe. Which I loved a lot ironically I felt safer in my tent with a bug netting than I did in the actual rooms with the bugs in them. Being able to experience Rancho Margot was beautiful. They had their own pool and then they had a pool that they created, which was amazing. It was beautiful. It felt so: Wow I am in Costa Rica right now. Where else can I be? In that situation it felt so surreal that I was in Costa Rica and not Cincinnati. This was one of the housing accommodations, Eco resort and regenerative Ranch in which there is bugs in the room, some on the bed and in the bathroom. I felt so anxious the whole time I was there but despite that, it was a beautiful place to see their Permaculture to see their sustainable animal farming, and to be able to just witness their Green sustainable practices. Out of all of the places I love the hotel. We were at Hotel Presidente, and then La Selva biological reserve. The reserve was also buggy, but it was just wonderful because the food was amazing and one of the days I had watermelon juice and it was the best watermelon juice I’ve ever had. I just love the freshest of the food in the nature around us, there were so much and it was beautiful to be there. That’s amazing. We also got to visit La Fortuna waterfall and that was wondrous. It felt so surreal. It was beautiful. We had to climb down around 500 steps and 500 back, but it was beautiful to be able to say I saw La Fortuna waterfall, and then we also hiked to a volcano which I haven’t been able to say, but now I can’t say I hiked a volcano. The trip was so beautiful despite our leadership. The trip was so beautiful to be able to experience the life of Costa Rica and the life of the Costa Ricans too. I was so in all of everything. It is quite a beautiful country. So much things to see so much things to do. I despite the bugs I love the activities we do getting to visit the banana plantation wonderful getting to snorkel at a national park. Was something that I have never done before but now I can say yeah I snorkel in Costa Rica and I got to see coral reefs. So I was so happy just because this whole trip I have gotten out of my comfort zone whether I wanted to or not and I did this despite my fears I did this and I experience this and I was so proud of myself for being able to experience it despite my fears in wanting to hold my own self back, but I didn’t. And I can tell people truthfully Costa Rica was tough for me, but I got through it and looking back I would not change anything minus the leadership because being in Costa Rica and being with the locals is what I want I was being immersed with Costa Rica and that’s the best way to be educated. And I was so grateful I had the opportunity to visit Costa Rica in my life because now I want to go back and visit the Caribbean site again, which was Puerto Viejo.
