Scroll down!
My name is Meaghan Pohl, but you can call me Professor Mey (pronounced "May", she/her). Welcome to Biology 003 at LAVC! We will spend these next 5 weeks getting to know one another and learning about "life" as we know it.
This is our Liquid Syllabus, a site that contains all of the information you need about this course. Please spend some time exploring each of the pages using the navigation menu. There will be a quiz on this information in Canvas!
Each week in Canvas you will have a weekly module that contains list of lecture topics to watch, a discussion, and a practice quiz.
Yes, you have to watch the videos.
Modules will be open for you to complete at your own pace, as long as you keep up with due dates of online assignments and are prepared for exam days.
You must complete each lecture topic and assignment in the module before you can move on to the next.
Lab is in AHS 151 from 9:35 am to 12:25 pm, Monday through Thursday.
We will spend about 2.5 hours completing a lab activity, then the end of class is dedicated to your Exit Quiz for the day.
Some Lab classes will be a Review Session and Exam. These dates vary so be sure to check the schedule!
Taking a 5-week class in any subject can be daunting and will require a lot of time and dedication. If this is your first science class, or your first in a long time, this will probably be quite the challenge!
Follow these tips and trick, and I know you will be successful in this class:
Print or write out the course schedule - know when we have exams and the topics on each exam so you are prepared.
Schedule time to watch the lecture videos. You will need to spend about 10 hours watching lectures for each exam.
If you watch the videos over the weekend, you can use our time in Lab as study time.
Work smarter, not harder.
Take notes while watching lectures and bring them to our Review Sessions before each Exam.
Login to Canvas and complete the Course Orientation Module (including Syllabus Quiz) by Monday, January 6th, at 11:59 pm
Attend our first lab meeting on January 6th at 9:35 am
Please read through the content on each page in the Navigation Menu, before logging in to Canvas.
