The model includes the main steps of anaerobic glycolysis, and the production of ethanol and glycerol. Transmembrane diffusion of acetaldehyde is included. Depending on the kinetic parameters, the single-cell model shows both stationary and oscillatory behavior. The inclusion of intercellular coupling leads to a variety of dynamical modes, such as synchronous oscillations, and different kinds of asynchronous behavior.

Load the model below and then hit the 'Start' button to run the simulation. Adjust the sliders for parameter and species initial concentration below the plot to see how they affect the overall species concentrations as a function of time.
