Haptic Rendering for Pin-Array Devices

Overview:

In this research, we presents a new tactile rendering method to haptically represent the micro-shape of a target object’s surface. We first create a tactile image containing micro-shape information of the object’s surface, and then we extract haptic information from the tactile image. By conveying this extracted haptic information to a pin-array tactile device, users can understand the micro-shape of the target object’s surface with only touch feedback.

Haptic Rendering Using Beat Phenomenon for Transparent Film-Type Vibrotactile Actuator

Overview:

The most important thing in a thin and soft haptic module with an electroactive polymer actuator array is to increase its vibrotactile amplitude and to create a variety of vibrotactile sensations. In this research, we present a haptic rendering method that maximizes the actuators’ vibrational force without improving the array’s haptic performance.

Systematic Vibrotactile Rendering for Touchscreen Mobile Devices

Overview:

In this research, we proposes visuotactile primitives with vibrotactile properties for a more systematic haptic representation of virtual objects in touchscreen mobile devices. We define a DOT, a LINE, and a SURFACE as tactile symbols of hitting a small bump, flicking a string, and rubbing a textured surface, respectively. The combination of the proposed primitives induces a more efficient design process for providing various tactile properties of virtual objects to users.
