What we did this year!
Community Building: During a Community Building at HHS, Interact hosted a school-wide interactive game of trivia on topics like countries, Disney, and Hudson! It was a highlight of people's week and encouraged positive school culture. Because of so much positive feedback, we were lucky enough to run this community block again a second time!
Veteran's Day Appreciation/Drive partnered with Westridge Cares: This year, we fund raised for Veterans by selling Boo Grams, where students could buy small candies for the person of their choice. The money raised was donated to Veterans Inc. and part of the Thanksgiving Basket for local Veterans., and was accompanied by an appreciation video and handwritten cards from students and staff at HHS.
Club Fair: Every year, the HHS Community Council hosts a club fair to showcase all clubs and activities at Hudson High. This year, Interact Club focused on not only advertising the club to new possible members but also on fundraising for Veteran's Day. We encourage our classmates to join the Club or do service on their own.
Veteran's Day Parade: To celebrate our Veterans, Interact Club members created colorful posters to support every U.S. military branch. We displayed these posters while walking in Hudson's Veteran's Day Parade and had a lot of fun!
Trivia Night: This year, we hosted 6 teams at our annual Trivia Night! With many difficult questions, cool prizes, and lots of laughs, Trivia Night was very successful! Thanks again Mrs. Nielsen for the questions and proctoring!
Rise Against Hunger: Interact Club members along with volunteers from the community contributed to filling and packaging over 10,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger. We sent extra packages to our local Food Pantry, and the location of the 10,000 meals is still pending. The event was super successful and the kids had a lot of fun ringing the gong at every 1,000 meals!
Thanksgiving Food Drive: In an effort to collect food, toiletries, and household supplies, Interact ran a school wide competition between grades to collect a range of items. The 8th grade was challenged to collect canned and boxed items, freshman collected supplies for first aid bags, sophomores collected supplies for birthday bags, juniors collected toiletries, and seniors collected baby items. All items collected were donated to Haitian refugees through the Board of Health.
Teacher Appreciation Cards: As Teacher Appreciation Week got closer, Interact Club handed out cards that students could write nice notes in and send to that specific teacher they appreciate! We collected over 200 cards which were later distributed during teacher appreciation week for teachers to read!
Sophie's Malawi Trip: Sponsored by the Hudson Rotary Club, one of our own Interact members Sophie Charbonneau was able to fly with the Bridges to Malawi team to Malawi. Sophie gained incredible medical experience while on the trip and met so many new people!
Yuda Bands: In 2023, Interact started their journey with Yuda Bands, organizing and selling bracelets created by children in multiple countries to support their education. Interact sponsored Ashley, a young girl from Guatemala. The task of selling the bands was so large that it continued into the next year! Ashley is hoping to become a Pediatrician when she is older, and needs the education to make her dream a reality. The Interact Club sold 70 bracelets, and raised around $730, which is enough to send her to school for a year and a half!
Backpack Buddies: Members of Interact helped out Backpack Buddies, a Hudson organization that packages food and snacks for students in the community who need food support. Interact student assisted in packaging and distributing the bundles.
Chalk Messages: Interact Club hung quotes emphasizing democratic principles and wrote motivating quotes in chalk at the doors of Hudson High School to encourage students on their CAP night. This was a way to welcome guests, and create a positive environment in school on a night that honors students civic participation.
