What We Did!
Celebrating Veterans Day: Given the circumstances of this year, Hudson was unable to host a town-wide parade celebrating the duty of our Veterans. Instead, we created a video featuring students and landmarks of Hudson, explaining what Veterans Day is and why it is so important to our lives, our town, and our country.
Festival of Trees: The school's Junior Boosters Club hosted an event this year called Virtual Festival of Trees. Clubs and organizations of the school community were able to sponsor a tree by choosing a theme and decorating it to be raffled off to someone in the community. Interact Club chose for our tree to represent love and peace in the Hudson community. All of our ornaments represented organizations or programs that support Hudson and the surrounding community and were handmade by club members, from the top of the topper to the bottom of the tree skirt! Take a look so see what we made!
Padlet for Healthcare Workers: To spread some holiday to local healthcare workers, Interact put together a shared messaging board where members of the school community were able to share their thanks and encouragement!
Pen-Pals to the Senior Center: Each Interact member wrote letters and were partnered up with 1-2 Seniors that we now write back and fourth to twice a month. From kindling ties between music, art, books, and school this has been a great chance to meet a new friend and create community across generations.
Blanket Drive: Interact partnered with Hudson's local branch of a volunteer charity furniture bank, Fresh Start. To support families in need during the upcoming cold weather, we held a blanket drive. We were able to deliver 4 cars full! During the successful collection day of the donations, we also decorated the front entrance with positive aspirations and pictures to welcome students back to school after being remote!
Guest Speaker Series: We wanted to get to know and create a connection with some of Hudson's community organizations. Over virtual presentations week to week, we heard from the Hudson Community Food Pantry, Hudson Land Trust, Agape Cafe, and Bridges to Malawi! It was great to learn the background and impact of all these organizations, along with what we can do as a club and town citizens to lend a hand.
Hudson Candidates Night: The town reached out to Interact looking for civic and community driven students for questions that would be asked to candidates running for School Committee and the Board of Selectmen. They also were looking for a logo and graphics for the virtual event that our avid graphic designer and secretary, Faith, was able to produce.
MIAA Workshop: A handful of club members were able to attend a community service centered workshop hosted by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association. Although we were not participating as a sports team, it was a great time of hearing fellow students in the surrounding towns showcase the outreach to the community they did even in the wake of a pandemic. Last minute Interact was able to share about the work we have done too!
Kylee's Kits: Twice this year Interact has been able to lend helping hands putting together meal packages for local students in need of a meal. Kylee's Kare Kits for Kidz, Inc is a local organization with the mission of fighting hunger by providing food bags to children who do not have enough at home on the weekends. Such a great time getting so much done!
Trivia Night: Although our annual trivia night looked a little different this year, a great time of fun and turning brains continued on! In the school courtyard we hosted a total of 10 teams and, with the help of our fantastic moderator, Ms. Neilson, had rounds of epic questions that led to 4 prize winning teams.
