Federated AI Policy for Chapters
The Intentional AI Club, Inc. equips students and communities to Think with Integrity, Explore with Wisdom, and Navigate with Courage in the age of artificial intelligence. This policy establishes shared expectations for AI use across all federated chapters, grounded in our values of integrity, dignity, stewardship, respect, hope, and lifelong learning.
This policy supplements — and never overrides — the policies of host institutions. If differences arise, host institution policies take precedence.
This policy applies to all chapter leaders, members, and collaborators engaged in Club activities, projects, communications, or events involving AI. It applies to generative AI, conversational AI, automation, predictive analytics, and other AI technologies.
Think with Integrity – Be transparent about AI use; acknowledge contributions honestly.
Explore with Wisdom – Approach experimentation with humility and discernment.
Navigate with Courage – Use AI critically, facing risks with responsibility.
Live with Hope – Pursue AI’s potential for human flourishing.
Honor Human Dignity – Ensure AI amplifies, not diminishes, creativity and relationships.
Steward Technology Responsibly – Balance opportunity with accountability.
Build a Community of Respect – Create safe, inclusive spaces for learning.
Commit to Lifelong Learning – Adapt as technology and understanding evolve.
Institutional Priority: When available, chapters should prioritize AI tools provided or endorsed by host institutions, as these meet privacy, security, and accessibility standards.
Personal Tools: Members may use personal AI tools in Club activities but must:
Avoid sharing sensitive or personally identifiable information.
Disclose which tools were used when presenting outcomes.
Acknowledge potential differences in reliability, transparency, and data protection compared to institutional tools.
Separation of Contexts: Academic coursework must always follow host institution's academic integrity policies. Club leaders and members share the responsibility to ensure that AI use in Club activities does not extend to graded assignments unless explicitly permitted by instructors.
Club Environment: Club activities are exploratory spaces where members can experiment with AI, practice critical evaluation, and reflect on ethical implications without risk to academic records.
Transparency: Leaders must remind members that practices permitted in Club activities (e.g., using AI to generate drafts or brainstorm ideas) may not be allowed in academic settings.
Chapters may use AI for:
Learning & Creativity – Brainstorming, prototyping, and exploring diverse perspectives.
Research & Communication – Summarization, translation, content organization, and idea refinement.
Leadership & Collaboration – Supporting group projects, event planning, and professional development.
All outputs should be critically reviewed, refined, and attributed when AI assistance is used.
Academic Dishonesty – Using AI in violation of host institution rules.
Misrepresentation – Presenting AI-generated work as solely one’s own.
Bias or Harm – Creating discriminatory, offensive, or harmful content.
Privacy Violations – Entering personally identifiable information into unsecured AI systems.
Overreliance – Depending on AI in ways that diminish human agency, creativity, or critical thinking.
Members must respect honesty, fairness, trust, respect, and responsibility when using AI.
When AI is used in Club projects, contributions should be acknowledged (e.g., “AI-assisted summary generated using ChatGPT”).
Chapters should model practices for citing AI, helping members distinguish acceptable academic use from exploratory club learning and workplace practices.
Members must safeguard personal and institutional data.
Chapters may only use AI tools that are transparent about data use.
Sensitive, private, or identifiable data should never be shared with consumer AI systems.
Members representing the Club in external contexts must uphold the Club’s mission and values.
Public-facing outputs (presentations, events, social media) must align with our commitments to integrity, dignity, stewardship, and respect.
Collaborations or partnerships initiated by chapters should be transparent, values-driven, and consistent with both this policy and the host institution’s expectations.
AI may support, but never replace, human decision-making.
Members remain accountable for their actions, outputs, and choices.
“Humans in the loop” is required: all AI-informed outputs must be subject to human review and judgment.
Chapters should review their AI practices annually.
Leaders should gather feedback from members and host institutions.
The federated policy will be updated regularly to reflect new technologies, risks, and lessons learned.
These policies are pending Board review and approval. 9/2/2025
FERPA - AI systems must protect the privacy of student education records and comply with parental consent requirements. Data must remain within the direct control of the educational institution.
COPPA - AI chatbots, personalized learning platforms, and other technologies collecting personal information and user data on children under 13 must require parental consent.
IDEA - AI must not be implemented in a way that denies disabled students equal access to education opportunities.
CIPA - Schools must ensure AI content filters align with CIPA protections against harmful content.
Section 504 - The section of the Rehabilitation Act applies to both physical and digital environments. Schools must ensure that their digital content and technologies are accessible to students with disabilities.
