Director, Prof. Chul-Goo Kang

Bio

Dr. Chul-Goo Kang (강철구) received B.S. and M.S. degrees in mechanical design and production engineering from Seoul National University in 1981 and 1985 respectively, and Ph. D. degree in mechanical engineering (control and robotics) from University of California, Berkeley in USA in 1989. From 1982 to 1983, he served in the Army of Korea.

He joined the faculty in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Konkuk University in Seoul, where he has been Professor since 1999. He served as Director of Engin. Education Innovation Task Force (2010-2013) and Future Robot Research Center (2007-2015), and Director of Intelligent Control and Robotics Laboratory (1990-2023) and Railway Vehicle Laboratory (2000-2023) at Konkuk University. He also served as Department Head from 1995 to 1996. 

In 1996, he visited the Institute of Real-Time Computer Systems and Robotics (IPR), University of Karlsruhe in Germany for two months. In 1997, he visited the Industrial Automation Laboratory, University of British Columbia in Canada for one year. He served as the General Chair of the International Conference URAI 2011, and Organizing Chair of the International Conference ICCAS 2012. He served as the President of Korea Robotics Society (KROS) in 2015, and as the Education Division Chair of Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers (KSME) in 2014, and as a Steering Committee Member of Asian Control Association (ACA) from 2018 to 2021. 

He is a Fellow of ICROS, Senior Member of IEEE, and a member of ASME, ACA, KSME, KROS, KSPE, KSR, KOSUR, and KIIS. He has been a member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea since 2018. He married Wonhee and has a son (professor) and a daughter (attorney).
