Characteristics of individuals that are not willing to disclose much about themselves can be predicted through social media platforms. For example, one's character can be predicted by analysing the pages they liked, the people they follow or their taste in music. Maintaining privacy can be successful by anonymizing datasets, including main attributes such as, name, address and social security number but excluding these does not guarantee one's privacy. The ability of one being able to control the spread of their personal data is compromised by both technological and social transgression of privacy. When using social media platforms as educational tools, teachers should discourage learners from sharing sensitive information and encourage them to keep their current, home and school location anonymous to avoid stalkers or being victims of human trafficking. Permitting social platforms to have access to your location may result in others being able to predict your movement patterns. Learners should also be responsible and respect others privacy by desisting to use online information to track or trace their fellow classmates. Learners should also be encouraged to choose the option of limiting the access to their attributes to well-trusted individuals such as family and friends. Communication is a mechanism in which privacy is managed. The more users' can manage their private lives, the more privacy they experience. It is easy for stalkers to track others suing their attributes, for example when two individuals have similarities in their attributes, it makes it easier for a stalker to trace one using their friend's attribute, if one is studying at the University of Johannesburg it is more likely for the other one to be in the same institution. Privatisation of your attributes could lead to less stalker situation due to your data being controlled.
