1. REQUIREMENTS
By using The Insight App you will be participating in a psychology experiment on self-improvement being conducted by Victoria Amo and Dr. Falk Lieder from the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. In order to consent to participate, you MUST meet the following criteria:
(1) Be 18 years of age or older.
(2) Be a fluent speaker of English.
(3) Have not participated in this experiment before.
The risks of our study procedures do not significantly exceed the risks associated with interacting with standard self-improvements apps. To see the risks of a breach of confidentiality, please see the privacy section.
This study is designed to measure the efficacy of different types of interventions to help to recognize and overcome maladaptive mental and emotional habits. Participating in this study will give you access to The InsightApp. This might potentially help you enact value-congruent intentions. We hope that this research will benefit society at large by laying the scientific basis for developing effective tools to overcome limiting beliefs. You will be excluded from the study if you do not follow the code of conduct. This is the case if we notice that your participation is not serious, your answers are unrelated, or your completion times are unusually short.
If you have any questions about the study, feel free to contact Victoria Amo (victoria.amo@tuebingen.mpg.de).
2. COMMITMENT AND REMUNERATION
If you consent that you want to participate in the study, we will ask you to use The InsightApp for about 35 minutes. Here you will:
(1) Provide basic information (age, gender, and country of origin)
(2) Answer a psychological survey composed of short scales belonging to the area of mindsets, beliefs, mindfulness, self-improvement, or well-being.
(3) Reflect on a situation that you are going through that is challenging on an emotional level.
(4) Reflect on values and value congruent behavior
(5) Reflect on thoughts, emotions, beliefs and actions.
(6) Do a breathing exercise.
(7) Share your user experience with the App.
Remuneration for the 40 min experiment is 6£ (9£ per hour). You will receive a bonus of 2£ (total 12£ hour rate) if the information you entered is logically congruent. This means that you wrote or selected coherent sentences that answer the corresponding questions and therefore passed the inclusion criteria for the experiment.
Setup (5 min) + Intervention (35 minutes) = 6£
Maximal total = 6£ (intervention) + 2£ (bonus) = 8£
Please read the consent carefully and only start the experiment if you are committed to participating. You can collect your payment by entering the code in the Prolific platform. We will give you the bonus as soon as we review your data, this process can take up to 3 days.
