These violent extremists, influenced by anarchist ideology, have been associated with multiple plots and attacks, which included a significant increase in violence against law enforcement and government symbols in 2020 (Homeland Security 18).
Chan sites, known as 4chan and 8chan (aka Infinitechan or Infinitychan) are online hotbeds for violent ideologies. The sites have few rules and moderators to enforce them, and the anonymous posting process makes it difficult to block or remove a user for very long (United States Secret Service 20).

SS Runes: popular among neo-nazis, rooting from Nazi paramilitary symbolism
OK Hand Gesture: oftentimes used to portray white power
Proud Boys: misogynistic alt-right white nationalist group that has a reputation for violence specifically towards counterdemonstrators. They utilize symbols such as the gold “PB” emblem and orange hats or orange tape.
1776 memorabilia: referring to the US revolutionary war, it is associated with the conspiracy theory that the Trump administration’s election loss will awaken a revolution. Such merchandise can be purchased on “1776.shop,” an online store established by members of the Proud Boys.
Three Percenters: An extremist alt-right paramilitary group that is based on the idea that there is only a small number of chosen patriots protecting America against the government. The group name refers to the incorrect notion that only 3% of Americans fought against British rule during the American Revolution
QAnon: a loosely organized online group that believes in the conspiracy theory that claims that elites such politicians, celebrities, and executives are devil worshiping pedophiles with Trump leading a crusade against the said elites. The group follows instructions in leadership of an anonymous figure “Q.” They are known to use #SaveOurChildren on online platforms as an anti-LGBTQIA+ dog whistle.
Oath keepers: self proclaimed anti-government militia group with inherent racist and antisemitic beliefs. Group members are mostly veterans, law enforcement officers, and politicians.
America First: fanbase of a podcast hosted by alt-right activist Nick Fuentes. This group refers to themselves as “Groypers” or the “Groyper Army” in connection with pepe the frog in efforts of distinguishing themselves from white supremecist even though they have prevailing racist and antisemitic beliefs.
Pepe the frog: humanoid frog meme associated with alt-right online culture especially on 4Chan
Kekistan: flag for the fictional country of kekistan based on Natzi swastika. Followers of alt-right online culture on 4Chan use “kek,” a term originated from the gaming world, as an association with pepe the frog. This is based on the ancient Egyptian deity portrayed with a frog head.
Noose/Day of the Rope: a fictional insurrection day, specifically on January 6th, from The Turner Diaries. This day is described by the lynching of “race traitors” or politicians, journaliists, and white people involved in interracial marriage by supremicist rebels.
Valknot: appropriated from ancient Nordic culture and heritage, oftentimes associated with Odinism or a variation of pre-christianity whiite supremacy.
VDARE: a xenophobic, ethnocentationalist website mainly cosisting of alt-right writers and intellectuals. The name is derived from Virginia Dare, who is claimed to be the first white child born in the New World.
Swastika & Sonnenrad: cultural symbols appropriated by Nazis and used in neo-nazi groups as a symbol of white supramacy and antisemitism
Confederate flag: expressing white supremacy with the claim of having “Southern Heritage”
88 : numerical code for “Heil Hitler” (H being the 8th letter in the alphabet)
18: numerical code for Adolf Hitler (H being the 8th letter and A being the 1st letter in the alphabet)
