Google Video Shows New 3D Ad Cube for Non-Intrusively Engaging VR Users – Google Area 120 workshop seeks to provide creative monetization opportunities for VR developers with an innovative three-dimensional native mobile virtual reality advertising format. The new ad format is structured as a 3D cube and displayed live in VR space. The live cube enables VR users to experience compelling advertising content by intuitively interacting with any of its six surfaces, each of which are capable of displaying live text ads, live photo ads, or live video ads. More importantly, by touching or gazing upon any of the live surfaces, the cube smoothly unfolds into an expansive canvass displaying a live highly-targeted video ad. While the Google team has proposed this new ad format for VR, other researchers have explored the possibilities of collaboratively creating, placing, and locating multidimensional content cubes, called snap mashies, in augmented reality (AR) settings (source: Definitions page of snaps.ai).
