It was an ordinary day when the inhabitants of the Kalır Island did their ordinary work. The green family was selling their fruits. The blacks had started to repair the materials. The reds had already cooked the food. We have caught the fish and are taking them to the shop. Each family had its own color and role. As you can tell from our color, we blues are involved in fishing and seamanship. By the way, everyone calls me Mırsaldın, but you can call me Mırs. Everyone calls me that. I spent most of my day exploring the ocean. Some days, my father teaches me how to use a harpoon and defend myself. It’s unpredictable what kind of fish we might encounter in the water.
Last night, he called me to his room. He took out a worn-out old paper from an antique from the closet. Years ago, he found a bottle inside a fish he caught and said it contained a treasure that was granted wishes on the other side of the ocean. My mother died when I was born, and my father has been taking care of me since that day. He is now very old, while I am young and strong. All he wants for me is to find that treasure and bring my mother back to life. I didn’t believe this at first, but he seemed very serious. He gave me everything I needed to find the treasure. I never saw my mother. I would really like to see her. If what my father says is true, this treasure can bring my mother back to us. If I am going to do this, I need help. I told my friends what happened. At first, they laughed at me, but I convinced them, albeit with difficulty, that instead of staying on this island for the rest of their lives, they would stay on or join me in an unforgettable adventure by chasing this mystery.
Cemil said:
-The ocean looks very rough and terrifyingly dark.
Işık replied:
-Yes, I agree you. Should we set sail in the early morning?
However, I disagreed, “Absolutely not! They will see us in the morning. We are leaving now.” So, we decided to set sail out tonight while everyone was asleep. Işık brought the food, Cemil brought drinks, and I prepared the sail. We met at the time on and set off. We were in the water for exactly 14 days. Disastrous rains poured down some nights, and we fought against the waves. Some nights, the ocean was so beautiful that we couldn’t sleep mesmerized by the shimmering lights. I will never forget the sixth night we fought killer whales and defeated four. And last night, on the 14th day, a dark shadow approached us in the distance, or we were approaching it. I asked: “Do you guys see what I see right now?”
Işık said:
-It is getting bigger…
-As we approach said Cemil.
As we got closer, the dark thing was turning into a large fish fit an appearance. A monster with a blue, sharp, and hard-skinned dragon head suddenly appeared from the water. I quickly picked up my harpoon, and when our eyes met, I froze in fear. It slowly approached me and began to laugh, saying, “Did you think this could score me, little guy?”.
IT WAS TALKING TO ME! I asked, “Can you understand me?” shockingly.
-I understand everything. What are you doing in such a dangerous place? He replied. I thought we had died of hunger.
I explained our entire plan and the purpose of it. It told us that the only way to open the secret doors is to sacrifice something to the ocean. It wanted one of us. At that moment, I understood the real reason why my father hadn’t come with me. He didn’t want to sacrifice me, but he wanted my mother back. I had no other choice than to sacrifice myself.
I said, “Take me.” We didn’t have enough supplies and strength to go back. This monster fulfills all wishes. I wished for my mother and my friends to continue their lives as if I never took them on this journey. It opened a magical hole in the ocean and told me to jump in. I looked at my friends and smiled, then let myself fall into the water.
I woke up, falling out of my chair, and realized I had fallen asleep on the pool's edge. It was a strange dream.
