Canadian History

The history of Quebec and Canada are considered mandatory in the curriculum of our students; the focus of those courses is only on one particular narrative. It is important to recognize that the history of the land does not begin with the creation of Canada and parallel to the Canadian narrative exist other perspectives from Indigenous communities across Turtle Island. Indigenous history is Canadian history. The legacy of this land is important to be explored through the different perspectives and respective experiences in order to say that you know "Canadian" history. These courses are just one way that schools in our boards, and across the country can engage in reconciliation by considering and prioritizing Indigenous perspectives in history.
