Are you a student without any plans for the summer? Perhaps you have an internship, and you know you’ll be doing MBSE… For the very first time, we are excited to announce the INCOSE at Mason Academic Excellence Award; an opportunity for SEOR students to expand their systems engineering knowledge beyond the classroom. 

One student applicant will be awarded a year-long license to the On-Demand OCSMP Accelerator SysML Training Course (2022 Edition). This training course prepares you for the OCSMP Model User (Level 1) and OCSMP Model Builder: Fundamental (Level 2) certification.

Are you a student conducting research or working on a project in an area related to climate science, climate policy, climate engineering, community resilience, disaster response and recovery, emergency management, and/or fostering human health and security? You are encouraged to submit a poster to our poster contest! The top two posters will win cash prizes! 

Posters will be displayed at the STAR-TIDES Capability Demo on April 15 at George Mason University’s Mason Square Campus in Arlington, VA. Contestants will give a short presentation to judges at the event. Winners will be announced at the Reception the evening of April 15, 2024. Contestants must be enrolled as students at George Mason University in the Spring 2024 semester.

The Department of Systems Engineering and Operations Research is seeking an Undergraduate Research Assistant to work on a Curriculum Impact Project entitled Converging Sustainability, Social Justice, Systems Engineering, and Community Engagement (S3&C): Core Competency for Addressing Grand Engineering Challenges.  

The goal of the project is to redesign two systems engineering courses and one environmental science and policy course and develop a new course, which prepares students to tackle challenges posed by climate change, sustainability goals, and social justice. 

Successful applicant will be expected to work with a multidisciplinary team to (a) define course modules related to sustainable development goals and systems engineering, (b) analyze data and models related to cases studies, (c) coordinate and define community engagement activities, (d) develop surveys to obtain student feedback on the revised curricula as well as analyzing the survey data, and (e) provide feedback from the student perspective during the development of course modules and community engagement planning.
