incommunity summer conference
Every summer, INCommunity hosts a thematic conference designed for our interns, community partners, and members of the medical community. These conferences create a space for dialogue, reflection, and collaboration around the social, structural, and clinical issues encountered in the environments where our partners work.
The Summer Conference aims to:
deepen understanding of the realities experienced by the populations served in each INCommunity stream
explore innovative approaches in community health and harm reduction
strengthen connections between community organizations, interns, and healthcare professionals
highlight the essential work carried out by community-based organizations and frontline workers
These events are central to INCommunity’s mission: training future physicians to be socially aware, collaborative, and committed to a more just, inclusive, and human-centred practice.
Our Guest Speakers
Each year, INCommunity invites speakers from diverse backgrounds to offer rich, multidisciplinary perspectives. We typically welcome the following:
Community workers who support vulnerable populations (homelessness, substance use, justice involvement, immigration, gender-based violence, etc.)
Healthcare professionals engaged in social medicine, harm reduction, mental health, and public health
Researchers and academics specializing in global health, health equity, and social determinants of health
Partner organizations, who present their missions, challenges, and initiatives
Individuals with lived experience, who share their stories and contribute to a more human and nuanced understanding of the realities discussed
These speakers help ground the conference in real-world expertise and lived experience, offering interns a deeper and more meaningful understanding of the communities they serve.
