Queer Spiritual Fortitude

LAMP is piloting a training course in spiritual fortitude run by and for LGBTQIA+ Christians in the Pittsburgh area.

Christian tradition has a wealth of tools for bolstering spiritual fortitude.  This course teaches a survey of such tools that have been recast by and specifically for queer Christians - whether they be churched folks (from LAMP's own congregations and elsewhere), or folks who are healthily and happily unchurched.  We assume all participants are already on their own spiritual journey and that the leadership team is providing a way-station on that journey rather than deciding the shape of that journey.

Practices may include lectio divina, dwelling in the Word, examen, automatic writing, prayer of the heart, psalm recitation, and others, with one new practice introduced per week.  LAMP leadership seminary-trained in these skills will introduce the practices, offer reassurances and suggestions, and facilitate post-practice discussions and sharing by the participants.

    Sample meeting outline:
    - Opening prayer and 5 min of silence
    - Check in, how are you?   Where is your strength?  Folks can share or pass.
    - How did last week's practice go?  Is this something you plan to continue on your own?  Why/why not?
    - Introduce this week's practice, try it out. What questions do you have?
    - Devotional led by LAMP leadership of scripture through a queer lens
    - Closing prayer and Sending

The first course cohort is expected to start January 2024.
