Competitor Analysis

During our competitor analysis, we found a variety of incubator-accelerator programs, gamified applications and learning software geared towards distinct aspects of social entrepreneurship. But we could not identify a platform which address minority students' entrepreneurial interest and the problems they often face directly.

We have already identified from our needs analysis what we wanted to provide as a support for target learners, so we searched for other initiatives that offer virtual mentorship, resources for social entrepreneurship and community of social entrepreneurs, in order to analyze features that could inspire us.

Potential Competitors

Changeroo

Changeroo is a software-based platform designed to assist social entrepreneurship projects. The content is presented in a very engaging manner which help learners get familiarized with entrepreneurial language and structure their social project. It provides some collaboration between learners. Yet, the features are not helpful enough to let our target learners identify first hand business challenges and opportunities (because it was not designed specifically for them, of course). But it gave us some good initial ideas.

Social Enterprise Alliance

Social Enterprise Alliance is a national membership organization that leverages an intuitive website to provide resources to social entrepreneurs. It includes 1-1 mentoring opportunities, webinar events and advisory services for entrepreneurs, but the services mostly catered towards already established organization. For a beginner, this platform can be intimidating and less intuitive with unfamiliar industry jargons.

Cube

CUBE is UNC’s Social Innovation Incubator program and an initiative by Campus Y. They provide students with a year of seed funding, professional mentoring, and capacity building support to tackle complex social problems. Our learners need to clear their misconceptions and get confidence from existing entrepreneurial set ups before receiving any kind of capacity building support. CUBE does not provide information about how and why existing social business have succeeded or failed.
