The University of Greenwich Maths Centre, in conjunction with The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA), is very pleased to announce the twelfth Undergraduate Mathematics Conference Tomorrow's Mathematicians Today (TMT), which will be held online on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 March 2025. There will also be an in-person reception at the University of Greenwich on the evening of Pi Day, Friday 14 March for those delegates who are able to attend: details will be sent when you register. There is no charge for UK undergraduates studying mathematics (or a closely related subject) to attend the conference.
We are delighted to announce that the conference will include keynote talks by Professor Alan Champneys, who is Professor of Applied Non-linear Mathematics at the University of Bristol, and by Professor Rachel Hilliam, Head of the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the Open University. Professor Champneys was awarded the IMA's David Youdan Medal earlier this year. Professor Hilliam was the inaugural Chair of the Alliance for Data Science Professionals.
We are very grateful to GCHQ who are sponsoring the prizes for the best undergraduate paper and popular vote.
(31/3/2025) REcordings of some of the conference presentations can now be found on the Programme Page.
(18/3/2025) The winners of the GCHQ Prize for the Best Presentation at TMT 2025 and of the GCHQ Popular Vote Prize have now been announced - go to the Prizes Page to find out who won!
(1/2/2025) We are delighted to publish the list of the undergraduate papers that have been accepted for presentation at TMT2025. 48 papers will be presented by undergraduates from 23 different universities. For the list, see the Programme Page.
If you are interested in presenting at this conference, see the Call for Papers.
"Everyone was welcoming and friendly, it didn't feel stressful to present, it was really enjoyable. Saw an amazing selection of talks on all sorts of mathematics. I was inspired by my peers doing research and amazing maths” - delegate at TMT 2022.
This will be a fascinating event which will give participants the opportunity to learn about a wide range of mathematics which has excited their peers. The aim of the conference is to enable final year (and other) undergraduates to give presentations on mathematical topics of their choice. Previous conferences have seen undergraduate speakers from a wide range of universities including Aberdeen, Birkbeck University of London, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Greenwich, Imperial College London, Leeds, Liverpool, London Met, Open, Oxford, Portsmouth, Royal Holloway, Sheffield, St Andrews, University College London, Warwick and many others.
Mathematics students will benefit enormously in a number of ways by attending. Those going into research will gain experience of the process of conference submission, while those going into the workplace will gain valuable experience of professional practice and networking to enhance their CVs and career prospects. Speakers will additionally gain evidence of their professional skills. All delegates will gain insights into a wide range of mathematics of potential value in their future careers. It will be a wonderfully enjoyable weekend of inspiring mathematics.
The IMA magazine Mathematics Today published a report on TMT 2024 in its June 2024 issue. The report on the 2023 conference can also be read online here.
